College Union Election (2022-2023)

Several days before the day of the college union election for the academic year 2020 to 2023, the teacher who was assigned the duty to conduct the election came to our classroom and read the election notification and the 10 posts for which the election was going to be conducted. Initially not many students came forward to stand for the election. Due to the insistence of my teacher, Mrs Rekha mam, who is also our Principal, I decided to give my name as a candidate for the position of Secretary to the Women Study Cell. She told us that participation is also important for our growth as a student and as an individual. It is not necessary to win every time you participate. Sometimes you have to go through failures too. We have to learn how to accept and learn from failures. It does not matter that you win or lose,  all that matters is a courage to participate.

At last, 22 students gave their names for contesting in the election for different posts. The candidates were officially declared after which they did the election campaigning. College Union Election was held on December 5th from 10 o'clock onwards. All the students casted their vote in a fair and democratic way. After that in the assembly hall, the polling started. Each vote was marked on the blackboard alongside the name of the respective candidate. Hence, the results were immediately known. I didn’t win the election, but I would say that this was a very different learning experience for me. The union advisor, Chitra miss and our principal, Rekha miss congratulated the winners and the other candidates. The elected candidates came onto the stage and addressed the fellow students and thanked them for their valuable votes. After a few days, the oath taking ceremony too was conducted.

This election also taught us B. Ed trainees how to conduct elections in school. It was both fun and informative.
