WEEK FOUR OF TEACHING PRACTICE

I have always loved educational strikes. On 7th November, there was no class as it was an educational strike in Kerala. However we had to go to the school and had to sign the register. I was sad because there won't be students but I still had to go to school and sit there till evening. Without wasting time, I prepared the author profile for my upcoming lessons and I made the charts for teaching poetic devices. Eventhough in the afternoon, I left the school after the HM told us to,  I missed my students on that day. The school without students felt empty and lacked the vibrant energy that my students brought .

Like last week, we had invigilation duties in this week as well. Exams were conducted in the third and the fifth period. The nervousness of the initial days of teaching practice are no longer there. There is a new found confidence in dealing any issues and situations related to school and teaching. During the invigration duty, I was very strict as the students have to learn school decorum and teachers have active role in it.

Students from the school who participated in Sub-district Football competition won first prize this week. My students from 8B were also there in the team. I congratulated each one of the players.

This week, I also had my first observation. Rekha miss, my option-in-charge came for observation and I took my class with utmost confidence and after that, my teacher gave me valuable points regarding my class. Even though I was confident about my class, I had to improve a little bit more and focus on each and every student. My teacher after observation noted that I should focus girls and boys equally and avoid mass answering of questions while I ask my students questions. I also need to write the assignment topic on the blackboard.

Being a teacher is not just about teaching your own subject, but also dealing with the overall functioning of the school. I helped the sports teacher in entering students details in the sports site provided by the Kerala educational department. I was surprised to see a number of sports items for which students can enroll.

Each day I fall more in love with the art of teaching.
